Preparing your own income tax return can be a task that leaves you with more questions than answers. According to a study released by the US Government's General Accounting Office last year, most taxpayers (77% of 71 million taxpayers) believe they benefited from using a professional tax preparer.

Today's tax laws are so complicated that filing a relatively simple return can be daunting.  It is just too easy to overlook deductions and credits to which you are entitled.

It is too easy to miss important tax elections.

Even if you use a computer software program there's no substitute for the assistance of an experienced tax professional.

Here's what you get:

  • We will work with you to accurately prepare your income tax returns.  But more importantly, as we review your documents and prepare your tax return, we will proactively work to identify planning opportunities for current and future tax savings (income tax, estate tax and any other taxes we believe you might be subject to).

  • We will discuss your overall financial situation with you and make recommendations on how to improve your finances, prepare for the future and to reduce your tax liabilities (within the confines of the law, of course).  We don't just put data onto your tax return, like many accountants.  We proactively look out for your interests and planning opportunities.

  • We will look for, and discuss any IRS "red flags" before your tax return is finalized.  The IRS usually selects returns based upon those "red flags" - though not always.  We're going to discuss any risk areas on your tax returns before they are finalized.  And just because you might have elements to your tax return which might draw IRS attention doesn't mean you should skip taking tax deductions or tax positions to which you are legally entitled - but it does mean that we need to have a discussion on what those risk areas are, and what approach we will take in the event of IRS questions.  The tax law is full of grey areas - some clients are aggressive in interpreting grey areas to their advantage.  Others take a more conservative approach.  Our goal is to discuss the grey areas with you in advance, and take positions with which all of us are comfortable.

  • We're tax consultants and planners, not accountants who merely put numbers onto a form.  We strongly believe that the value of our service is in the planning.
